2018 Grand World Voyage, Day 58, Puerto Princesa, Philippines (Part 1 of 2)

After three seas days we arrived in the Philippines to the sound of a marching band and a great welcome by the local residents of Puerto Princesa. Puerto Princesa is a coastal city on Palawan Island in the western Philippines. Today, our adventure took us two hours outside the city through the picturesque countryside to the biodiverse Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world’s seven natural wonders and is also one of the longest underground river in the world. After arriving at the park things were a little tense trying to get our transportation to the underground river entrance...but everything worked out....we boarded our outrigger canoe for a 20 minute ride to the park...once at the park we boarded a smaller outrigger for our spectacular ride along the underground section of the river...we travelled about two miles into the massive limestone caves and were treated to a spectacular display of rock formations, cathedral like chambers sculptured by nature over millions of years and natural habitants such as bats, birds, snakes and other reptiles...Another wonderful day. One sea day to go and we will be in Manila where we will met some very special friends.
