2017 Grand World Voyage, Day 167, Rishikesh to Delhi, India (Part 1 of 2)

A well needed rest for the group and we were ready to spend the morning in Rishikesh.  Our first point of interest today was the Ram Jhula; a 750 foot iron suspension bridge across the river Ganges, the newest bridge on the river. The bridge connects two villages; Sivananda Nagar to Swargashram and is one of the iconic landmarks of Rishikesh.  We traversed the Ram Jhula bridge and made our way to the Parmarth Niketan Ashram and Geeta Bhagwan located on the Swargashram side of the river. Though similar in design, this bridge is bigger than the original bridge, Lakshman Jhula, unfortunately time did not permit us to visit.  We returned to the east side via a public ferry boat and I did have an opportunity to photograph the Lakshman Jhula bridge.  We made our way to the airport for our return flight to Delhi.  Again, Rishikesh and Haridwar was a great experience and allowed us to dive into the sights, sounds and chaotic streets dodging cows, rickshaws and whatever gets in the way.  We are spending the night in Delhi before travelling to Agra so we had a brief opportunity to capture a couple highlights like; Presidential Palace, Parliament and the India Gate.  Tomorrow, March 13, 2017, is a national holiday in India known as Holi or the festival of the colors...people in Rishikesh had already started to celebrate.  This is part 1 of a 2 part blog.
